Most of the reviews are correct. The older gentleman who looks like a film character who sits in Chinatown all the time was VERY VERSED and extremely friendly. He knows his shit. Yes, the aquariums…

Mr. Kyoto will turn everything you thought you knew about good aquarium care upside down. He is so lovely, so intelligent and soft-spoken. I felt as though I was visiting a little ashram or Buddhist temple. Although it is a bit dirty and cramped in his little store, I rarely feel that kind of peacefulness anywhere else. There must be lots of negative ions in the air. Mr Kyoto is peace and simplicity embodied. Not only does Mr Kyoto not try to sell you anything but you'll leave feeling full of peace - what a gift! You'll delight over the fact that he rings you up on a cash register that must be from the 1960s (it has an actual hand-crank) and most of his aquariums are just as old with metal framing. It's hard to describe how wonderful and unusual a visit to Kyoto Aquarium is. Make sure to engage Mr. Kyoto in conversation as he is a bit shy. But once you get him talking, he really enjoys the conversation. After you make a purchase, he will probably follow you part-way out to your car, gratefully bowing from the heart, Japanese-style. I feel funny, but I always bow deeply back. Afterall, thank goodness there is a place like Kyoto aquarium in this city!

The only reason I gave one star was because it was the lowest rating you could give. Granted that you feel sorry for the old man that sits at the front door (who I am assuming is the owner), however,…
